The Latinx Theatre Project was cultivated through the collaboration of the UMass Amherst class, Latinx Theatre, and First Generation. The Latinx Theatre class is comprised generational students who are dedicated to expanding their knowledge on the Latin community and history and to sharing their work and experiences through theater and performance. The First Generation is a performing arts and leadership program for young adults who are first generation college students, first generation to grow up in America, first generation to be LGBTQ+, and any other first. The collaboration of these two groups was intentional and important for the art that was created.

From the beggining |
Where we are now |
We began our collaboration by building community. We participated in activities, games, and exercises that strengthened our bonds and provided us with the right tools. The community that we built was an important foundation for the conversations of race, gender, sexuality, oppression, and liberation.
|
We are a community that believes that theatre can celebrate, transform, and change society. Theatre is a lens that we use to understand our lives, to question and discover. Theatre is how we heal and grow.
